Report on Mattias Ormestad, optical engineer onboard Tara

For the last 19 days, Mattias Ormestad from Kahi Kai was in charge of the imaging platform onboard Tara. Tara Expeditions/Fonds Tara made a short documentation on his and Linda Mollestam’s work while the schooner is cruising from Ascension to Rio de Janeiro (Brasil). The short clip is available only in french.

The Kahi Kai team has the privilege to be involved in the development of the imaging platform of the Tara Oceans Expedition. On the current trip with Tara between Ascension (Great Britain) and Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), Mattias Ormestad is in charge of the imaging platform onboard, taking both macro and microscopy photos of planktonic and benthic sea creatures.

Mattias is a developmental biologist and currently starting his own webdesign company in Sweden. He is one of the co-founder of Kahi Kai and has a great passion for nature photography.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Eric is a developmental biologist and is also co-founder of the non-profit organization Kahi Kai (“one ocean” in hawaiian).
