From 800 entries, the close-up of the Portugese Man O War (Phsalia physalis) by Kahi Kai co-founder Eric Röttinger has been awarded the best non scientific image in the 2014 edition of the international EMBO Journal Cover Contest.

Sculpins are a diverse family of mostly bottom-living fishes that are related to scorpionfishes. They are particularly diverse in the North Pacific, especially in tide pools.
