Kahi Kai — one ocean

KahiKai
The Goal

Kahi Kai has one major goal.

Promoting the knowledge and the conscience of our ocean legacy to the public, the politicians and deciders in order to make each of us aware of the culture of the oceans and appeal to our responsibility to preserve the fascinating, mysterious and highly endangered marine world.

We therefore developed tools to facilitate interactions, to promote transfer of knowledge, the exchange of experience and the accessibility of information to everyone.

In addition, we will promote ocean related Art (photography, design… ) and environmental friendly watersport activities (outrigger, SUP, freediving, surf, kayak …) to bring the marine world closer to each of us.

We hope that this platform will be used to initiate border crossing projects to preserve our ocean related culture, traditional craftsmanship and promote inter and eco-cultural tourism.

At Kahi Kai we try to provide a platform to promote interactions between like-minded, allowing transfer of knowledge, establishing collaborations, providing educational material and several cross linked tools to easily find what you’re looking for.

Our current goal is to provide and improve the following services.

_Create an easy to use social network, allowing the users to establish and reinforce contacts between friends, co-workers and current/future collaborators.

_Provide a comparative gene expression database for marine invertebrates, allowing users to store/share/compare gene expression patterns from various marine invertebrates.

_Provide a searchable embryonic developmental database for scientific and educational purposes.

_Provide a searchable, illustrative and educational species database containing geographic and habitat information

and of course take into account your comments and thoughts and incorporate them into our platform in the near future.

- The trouble with our times is that the future is not what it used to be - (Paul Valery 1871-1945)

Well, we know that its hard/impossible to predict the future… but we also know that the current predictions are pretty sad. Everyday animals we even don’t know that they exist(ed) are extinct.

We at Kahi Kai don’t have the pretension to save the world… not at all. But we are pretty sure that we can help promoting the beauty, the complexity and the fragility of our oceans.

Kahi Kai is designed to connect the oceans of the world by promoting communication and interaction between countries, scientists, artists, journalists, politicians, fishermen, divers, surfers and everyone who is interested and committed to the various aspects of ocean life.

We hope that our work not only trains the next generation of scientist, but inspires community members to learn more about and preserve their local environment.

We wish that this project we be part of a world wide sensitization and will be able to appeal to our responsibility to preserve the fascinating, mysterious and highly endangered marine world.
